Description

This command is used to caluclate and to apply electromagnetic forces between two current carrying cables. The cables are automatically discretized into a number of segments. Each segment is treated as a charge in motion and there is a pair-wise interaction between all segments in Cable 1 and all segments in Cable 2.

The incremental forces for each segment pair are derived from the Darwin-Lagrangian equation for the interaction between two charged particles in motion. Note that the solution procedure simplifies reality by assuming that the interaction between two segments is independent of all other segments in their vicinity.

For two parallel conductors at mutual distance $r$ and currents $I_1$ and $I_2$, the force per unit cable length becomes:

$\displaystyle{ f = \frac{\mu_0 I_1 I_2}{2 \pi r} }$

where $\mu_0$ is the magnetic constant (also known as vacuum permeability).
